The BJP has criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of hypocrisy over the issue of OBC representation. According to BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, Gandhi talks about caste census and OBC rights but does not elevate OBC leaders to key positions, labeling his approach as inconsistent.
This controversy arises as Siddaramaiah steps down as Karnataka's chief minister, with D K Shivakumar expected to take the helm, leading to speculation over Congress's commitment to OBC representation. Poonawalla pointed out several Congress leaders, such as V D Satheesan and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, do not belong to the OBC community, questioning the absence of OBC chief ministers in Congress-ruled states.
Poonawalla alleged that the Congress party's practices regarding caste are inconsistent, emphasizing that the BJP has an OBC leader as Prime Minister. He accused Congress of being anti-OBC and anti-backward classes, asserting that the party focuses on dividing communities instead of genuine representation.
