A 31-year-old Swiss-Turkish dual national attacked and injured three people on Thursday at Winterthur train station, an act authorities have termed terrorism.
The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 am. Within five minutes of the alert being raised, the suspect was taken into custody. The individual, previously noted for disseminating ISIS propaganda in 2015, had also recently been admitted and released from a psychiatric facility.
Three Swiss men aged 28, 43, and 52 were injured. The younger two are recovering after being treated at hospitals, while the oldest victim remains hospitalized after surgery.
Authorities believe the suspect acted alone, and security chief Mario Fehr condemned it as an evil act of terror. The suspect gained Swiss citizenship in 2009 but reportedly spent considerable time in Turkey over the past two years.
