Reacting to recent air conditioner explosions, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has urged businesses in Delhi to thoroughly inspect and maintain their AC units. With rising summer temperatures and increased power usage, the CTI's advisory aims to prevent further incidents by recommending proper servicing by qualified technicians.
This warning followed a tragic event in Hauz Khas where an AC explosion led to a fatality, heightening concerns about safety. The CTI has reached out to numerous market and industrial associations across the city, emphasizing the risks associated with unauthorized repairs and the use of flammable gases, which could result in fires. It has stressed that repairs should only be carried out by authorized personnel and that financial transaction records should be maintained.
The organization has highlighted that although AC malfunctions are infrequent, they can be disastrous. Common causes include gas leaks, overheating, electrical faults, and substandard servicing practices. CTI has also reminded traders and residents to avoid leaving flammable materials near AC units and to be vigilant for any unusual noises or smells that might indicate problems, advising immediate shutdown if such signs appear.
