BESCOM Engineer Arrested for Accepting Bribe to Lower Fine

An engineer associated with the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has been apprehended for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh. The Lokayukta police set a trap and caught the engineer in the act, revealing malpractices in handling electricity fine reductions.
The accused, identified as B S Basavarajaiah, 57, reportedly demanded Rs 18 lakh from a complainant named Ambareesh. The amount was intended to reduce an imposed electricity fine in a BESCOM vigilance case. Lokayukta officials have registered a case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
