Tamil Nadu BJP leader Nainar Nagendran has highlighted the strategic importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative on river interlinking, viewing it as a key measure to strengthen the country's water resources.

Nagendran urged Tamil Nadu and other states to prioritize river interlinking along with comprehensive water management reforms, emphasizing the role of cooperation in resolving inter-state water disputes.

The Ken-Betwa project, promoted as a model by the Prime Minister, is projected to irrigate significant hectare areas and supply drinking water to millions while generating renewable energy. It aims to serve as a benchmark for future efforts.

Nagendran stated that Tamil Nadu has long battled water scarcity, with many rivers reliant on seasonal rain and flows from neighboring regions. He warned that if the crisis remains unresolved, it could endanger agriculture and urban water supplies.

The river linking initiative, according to Nagendran, should be implemented responsibly, incorporating environmental safeguards and community participation to form part of a broader sustainable water management strategy.
