CITU Protestors Held in Shimla Amid Tensions Over Workers' Strike

The situation stems from SEHB's unresolved labor disputes with the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

Police in Shimla apprehended several leaders of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) during a protest demanding the reinstatement of workers terminated by the Shimla Environment, Heritage and Beautification Society. The protest unfolded outside the deputy commissioner's office, voicing concerns over unresolved labor disputes.
The action provoked criticism from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which condemned the police response as contrary to democratic rights. The CPI(M) state secretary criticized the Shimla Municipal Corporation, alleging it seeks to quell worker protests instead of addressing unemployment concerns.
The incident relates to ongoing tension after SEHB workers were terminated following a strike prompted by the cancellation of a scheduled salary increase. Despite a provisional agreement, protestors claim no significant action has been taken to reinstate these workers or fully address their demands.
