Kuki Groups Protest in Manipur for Release of Captives

In Manipur, Kuki civil society organisations mounted demonstrations to call for the release of 14 community members who they claim are being held hostage. They also demanded justice for three church leaders killed in a recent ambush.

Under the leadership of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum, protests in Churachandpur and other Kuki-majority areas featured slogans against violence and ethnic intimidation. Demonstrators urged authorities to act swiftly against those responsible for the violence, while also pressing for the safe return of the abducted individuals.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur emphasised the urgency of their demands, highlighting perceived failures by officials to bring perpetrators to justice. Participants in the peaceful rallies held placards reading, "How Long Will India Stay Silent" and "No Citizen Should Live in Fear."
