DK Shivakumar was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Karnataka on Saturday, prompting jubilant celebrations among his supporters outside the Vidhana Soudha. This election positions him to be the next Chief Minister of the state.
The outgoing Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, proposed Shivakumar's name at a meeting led by All India Congress Committee general secretaries KC Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala. Shivakumar's swearing-in is set for June 3 in the Glass House of Lok Bhavan.
