The Congress Party aims to reclaim control in Karnataka by the 2028 elections, as predicted by general secretary K C Venugopal. Under the leadership of D K Shivakumar, the party is set to rally support, following his appointment as the new legislature leader.

In a meeting that included All India Congress Committee high officials Venugopal and Surjewala, Shivakumar was confirmed as the Congress Legislative Party leader, succeeding Siddaramaiah as he resigned. The election of Shivakumar reflects smooth transitions within the party, with a unanimous decision backed by top Congress figures such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi.

Venugopal lauded Siddaramaiah's past governance and expressed confidence in Shivakumar's future leadership, who is projected to advance development and public welfare. Celebrating Shivakumar's qualities, the Congress highlighted the contributions of both leaders in sustaining party unity and advancing Karnataka's progress.
