Kerala is gearing up to debut 'Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt,' one of the largest anti-drug initiatives in the region, on June 2. The campaign, aimed at dismantling narcotic networks, was announced by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. It represents a robust approach to combat the growing drug menace.

The operation will be spearheaded by Kerala Police in conjunction with various government departments. It intends to curb the spread of synthetic drugs utilizing advanced technology and modern investigation techniques. Collaboration with other state forces in South India is pivotal for tackling inter-state drug syndicates.

A significant part of this initiative involves community engagement through technology. A digital system for reporting drug-related activities, involving mobile apps and WhatsApp chatbots, is being created for citizen participation. Moreover, techniques like wastewater analysis and drone-assisted patrolling will play crucial roles in identifying and monitoring problem areas.

The strategy includes integrating anti-drug education in schools and legal actions like asset seizure connected to drug operations. Efforts will also focus on safeguarding minors and curtailing narcotics at social events and near educational facilities. Chennithala will lead the event's launch, including notable state leaders from various sectors.
