Ninth Arrest in Assam Fisheries Scam as Raids Uncover New Evidence

Padma Kanta Hazarika, who is implicated in the alleged financial misappropriations at the Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd (AFDCL), was detained in Puri, Odisha. His arrest brings the total to nine individuals apprehended in connection with this ongoing investigation into misused funds.
Following his arrest, Hazarika faced legal proceedings in Puri and was subsequently placed under a four-day transit remand, permitting his transfer to Guwahati for further questioning. During this probe, law enforcement conducted searches at multiple properties linked to him, seizing crucial documents and a variety of other items that may be pertinent to the case.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption reported several previous arrests which include notable officials from Assam Civil Services and other AFDCL personnel amid this expansive investigation into corrupt practices.
