After waiting nearly 19 agonizing hours, Ramesh Chand's worst fears were confirmed when his daughter's body was recovered from the ruins of the collapsed structure in Delhi's Saket area. The tragic discovery concluded Chand's tireless wait, which began with a call from his daughter's friends the previous night.
Ekta, a dental graduate from Alwar, had moved to Delhi to prepare for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. Scheduled for June 28, the test was a primary focus of her life. Ecstatic about her performance in a recent mock test, she was looking forward to celebrating her birthday on June 25.
The collapse, which disrupted routines and caused distress among local students, attracted massive rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Services, and others joined forces through the night to find survivors and recover victims.
Authorities are currently investigating potential negligence as the cause, while a criminal case and a magisterial inquiry have been initiated. Local students reported construction activity on upper floors of the building, suspecting it contributed to the disastrous collapse.
