Satyabrata Kumar, a former top investigator with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has chosen to retire early from public service. Renowned for handling significant money laundering cases, including those involving controversial figures like Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya, Kumar's departure from the government has been approved.

Previously a 2004-batch officer in the Indian Revenue Service, he was stationed as Commissioner (Appeals) in West Bengal before deciding to retire. This decision comes with 11 years left before reaching the mandatory retirement age. His work during a 12-year stint at the ED included key roles in probing a substantial bank fraud case involving diamond traders and sensitive investigations linked to Maharashtra politicians.

Under Kumar's leadership, the ED's Mumbai wing uncovered various financial crimes, culminating in asset attachments overseas in the Punjab National Bank fraud case. Recently, he also handled inquiries into the Mahadev online betting scandal. His timely resignation follows the footsteps of another ED officer who left sooner after ending his tenure.

This pattern of resignations among senior officers post-ED tenure raises questions about career choices within public service sectors.
