Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has come under scrutiny following a controversial display involving a toy Rafale fighter jet. On Thursday, authorities in Varanasi booked Rai after he showcased the model adorned with lemons and chilies, a gesture that many perceived as disrespectful to India's defense forces.

The controversy erupted after Pradeep Kumar Gupta, a member of a local Hindu group, filed a complaint leading to the registration of an FIR against Rai. The charges, under Sections 197(1) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relate to promoting enmity and making statements harmful to national integration.

Rai's actions reportedly received coverage in Pakistani media, underscoring potential damage to India's defense reputation. Criticism from the BJP states that Rai's comments constitute an affront to the armed forces, fueling an ongoing political storm.
