In a significant escalation of tensions, heavy shelling by Pakistani troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir claimed the life of a civilian and left two of her family members injured, officials disclosed on Friday. The offensive occurred on Thursday night, targeting multiple areas.
Indian forces retaliated to the breach of the ceasefire, which affected several civilian areas in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, including Silikot, Boniyar, Kamalkote, Mohra, and Gingle. Many residents evacuated to safer locations as numerous structures sustained damage due to the shelling.
The incident resulted in the tragic death of Nargis Begum, a woman who succumbed to her injuries after a shell struck her vehicle near Mohra. Despite ongoing tensions, the regions of Gouhalan and Chotali in Uri have not yet reported further casualties following the continued ceasefire violations on Friday.
