Rwandan authorities have detained prominent opposition figure Victoire Ingabire in the capital, Kigali, accusing her of inciting the public and forming a criminal organization. The Rwanda Investigations Bureau announced the charges without specifying a court appearance date.
Ingabire, who leads the unregistered party DALFA–Umurinzi, was released in 2018 after a six-year prison term for charges related to forming an armed group and genocide denial. Despite these legal challenges, she remains a vocal critic of President Kagame's government.
While Kagame is credited with significant economic progress post-genocide, his administration faces criticisms over human rights issues and alleged support of Congolese rebels. Ingabire's high-profile arrest underscores the persistent political tensions within Rwanda.
