Justice N Kotiswar Singh, a notable figure in India's judiciary, defended the courts against criticisms of overreaching into legislative territory. Speaking at the launch of a digital portal addressing workplace sexual harassment, he argued that judicial intervention is justified when the legislative framework falls short.
Justice Singh emphasized the critical need for safe and respectful workplaces, pointing to women's increasing representation in the judiciary. He stressed that workplace harassment not only undermines women's creativity but also violates the foundational consti-tutional principles of equality and justice.
Highlighting the socio-cultural roots of harassment, Singh and Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya called for gender sensitization programs. They pointed out that societal denial and deep-seated biases must be challenged to foster safer work environments.
