A four-member fact-finding committee from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) embarked on a mission to Kolkata on Monday to investigate the alleged gangrape of a law student from South Calcutta Law College. This initiative aims to scrutinize the law and order situation in West Bengal.
The committee comprises former Union Ministers Satpal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, along with Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra. Satpal Singh expressed intentions to engage with various stakeholders and the victim's family, hoping for access to necessary locations with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's cooperation.
Concerns have been raised about women's safety in West Bengal, with past incidents at RG Kar Medical College and now at the Law College prompting criticisms. The main accused is reportedly affiliated with the Trinamool Congress. The committee is tasked with producing a detailed report for BJP National President JP Nadda.
