Tensions intensified outside South Calcutta Law College on Monday as BJP supporters and their youth wing, BJYM, engaged in a heated scuffle with Left-wing workers and allied organizations. This followed a visit by a four-member fact-finding team from the BJP to the college premises, where an alleged gang rape of a student occurred last week.

The police struggled to control the situation as supporters from both factions gathered to protest over the alleged gang rape, involving a college alumnus and two senior students. The rallies were part of widespread demonstrations by the BJP and its student wings across Kolkata and West Bengal.

Not to be left behind, the CPI(M)'s student wing, SFI, organized a protest rally at College Street, in front of the Calcutta University main campus. Meanwhile, ABVP members, aligned with the RSS, staged protests in front of the college and the Kasba police station. Police have arrested alleged perpetrators, including alumnus Manojit Mishra, students Promit Mukherjee, Zaid Ahmed, and a security guard.
