West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intensified her 'Bengali Asmita' campaign, accusing the BJP of engaging in 'linguistic terrorism' aimed at Bengalis. Addressing a significant gathering at a Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata, she declared her intention to confront the BJP's alleged identity-based politics.
Banerjee asserted that the struggle for preserving language and identity will not cease until the BJP is removed from power. She indicated that fresh demonstrations would commence on July 27 in response to what she described as attacks on the Bengali language. Her reference to the 1952 Bengali Language Movement underscored the cultural significance of the issue.
She further criticized the BJP for purported attempts to alter the community's identity, spotlighting NRC notices, voter list exclusions, and detention camps affecting Bengalis. Banerjee also took aim at Assam's Chief Minister, challenging his interference and urged organized protests in response. She condemned alleged BJP-Election Commission collusion, promising heightened resistance if similar electoral manipulations occur in Bengal.
