In an unforeseen development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his position on Monday evening, citing medical concerns. The resignation, addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, stated that Dhankhar is stepping down immediately to prioritize his health, adhering to Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
Dhankhar's tenure, which began in August 2022 and was to last until 2027, saw him also serving as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. His resignation coincided with the Monsoon session's inaugural day, following a recent angioplasty procedure at AIIMS, Delhi.
Known for his eventful term, Dhankhar had several encounters with the Opposition, including an unprecedented impeachment motion, which was later dismissed. In his farewell letter, Dhankhar expressed gratitude towards President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, and other dignitaries, highlighting India's economic progression during his term.
