Rahul Gandhi, a leading figure in the Indian Congress party, launched a fierce critique against the government on Wednesday over U.S. President Donald Trump's recurrent claims of having mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Gandhi expressed suspicion about Trump's assertions, which he claimed were repeated '25 times.'
The Lok Sabha's Leader of Opposition demanded an explanation for Trump's involvement in diplomatic affairs traditionally outside his purview. He noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the matter, questioning the government's stance on national issues, notably Operation Sindoor.
While Trump's claims have been publicly dismissed by India, which insists the ceasefire arose from direct talks between military leaders, Congress highlighted a broader concern regarding the Modi administration's engagement with international relations and domestic democratic processes.
