On Monday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs staged a protest within Parliament premises, condemning alleged misogynistic remarks by a cleric against Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. The remarks were labeled as 'shameful and unacceptable' by the protesting MPs.
The cleric, Maulana Sajid Rashid, reportedly made the controversial comments during a TV debate, criticizing Yadav for wearing a sari at a mosque meeting, and unfavorably compared her to another SP MP, Iqra Hasan, who had her head covered.
The protest, led by female MPs from the BJP, took place near Makar Dwar in the Parliament House complex. Slogans such as 'Nari shakti ka apman, nahin sahega Hindustan' were raised, calling for respect towards women. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj criticized both the SP and its leader Akhilesh Yadav for their silence on the issue.
