Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien has welcomed the decision to stop birthday greetings for Rajya Sabha MPs. He argued that the time could be better spent discussing national issues. Rajya Sabha party leader from the Trinamool Congress, Derek O'Brien, expressed approval for the recent decision by the Rajya Sabha Chair to cease birthday greetings for MPs.
In a post on X, O'Brien highlighted that he suggested this change last week, noting that the time used for greetings could be redirected towards deliberating on pressing national concerns. His argument, made in a blog post, proposed that the annual 400 minutes spent on this practice could be better utilized in the House.
O'Brien noted with satisfaction the prompt acceptance of his proposal, sharing that this shift will allow Parliament to focus more on key issues facing the nation rather than personal celebrations.
