Chief Electoral Officers from multiple states have requested Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to provide names of electors he alleges were improperly included or excluded from official voter lists. The officers have asked for documentation and a signed declaration to proceed with any necessary actions on the claims.
According to Election Commission sources, Gandhi needs to formally submit a list of alleged wrongful inclusions or exclusions under the Conduct of Election Rules. Otherwise, he should cease making allegations against the poll authority without evidence, sources say, defending the transparency of electoral processes.
During a conference, Gandhi pointed at inconsistencies and fraudulent entries in voter rolls, including duplicate and invalid voters. While the Commission seeks formal complaints, Gandhi suggests his public statements are enough, accusing the commission of nationwide malpractice and threatening consequences for those undermining democratic foundations.
