Israel's Controversial Move: Netanyahu's Plan for Gaza Takes Shape

In a pivotal decision, Israel's Security Cabinet has given the green light to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's contentious strategy to assert military control over Gaza City. This move, aimed at disarming Hamas, has sparked widespread concern over the possibility of further intensifying the protracted conflict in the region.

The decision coincides with ongoing massive protests across Israel, where demonstrators demand an end to the war and the safe return of over 50 hostages held by Hamas for nearly two years. Netanyahu's office argues that an alternative proposal would not effectively dismantle Hamas or ensure the hostages' release.

The approved plan sets forth five main objectives: disarming Hamas, retrieving all hostages, demilitarizing Gaza, establishing Israeli security control, and creating a new civil administration. Meanwhile, humanitarian aid remains a priority outside combat zones. Some experts, however, warn that such military incursions may be counterproductive.
