Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi begins his two-day visit to India, where he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit, fruitfully timed days before Modi attends the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China, is a step towards mending bilateral ties strained since 2020's Galwan Valley clash.

Prior to meeting Modi, Wang will engage in talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The meetings are expected to cover crucial issues including border security, trade revival, and resumption of flight services between the countries.

As part of their reconciliation efforts, India and China are likely to discuss initiatives for peace along their contested borders. Wang's visit coincides with rising India-US tensions and marks China's effort to host the SCO summit amidst these diplomatic developments.
