The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi for his recent comments on Nepal. Quraishi, in an interview, had called recent developments in the neighboring country a sign of 'vibrant democracy,' sparking a backlash from the BJP.
BJP IT department head Amit Malviya branded Quraishi's remarks as 'reckless' and 'hardly surprising,' alleging ties between the Election Commission during Quraishi's tenure and organizations linked to billionaire George Soros's Open Society Foundation, which Malviya referred to as a 'deep state operator.'
Malviya further questioned Quraishi's handling of voter list discrepancies during his tenure, accusing him of failing to act on 'shifted, absent, and dead voters.' He criticized Quraishi and his successors for not addressing these issues effectively over the years, arguing that accountability should begin with those who held office but allegedly took no meaningful action.
