Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, applauded the central government on Monday for cutting Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. Reddy described the reforms as 'revolutionary,' suggesting they would drive consumption and investment by making the tax system simpler and more equitable.

Reddy acknowledged potential minor issues but expressed optimism that the changes would ultimately benefit consumers. In contrast, Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for previously opposing GST as Gujarat's Chief Minister but later championing it as PM. Ramesh accused the government of ignoring Congress's longstanding calls for GST reform until international pressures mounted.

Prime Minister Modi announced the implementation of new GST reforms from September 22, describing the move as a key component of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Modi highlighted the reforms' potential to launch a 'GST Bachat Utsav,' emphasizing their widespread benefits for the poor, middle class, farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs across India.
