Senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan has launched a blistering critique of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing the organization of playing a covert role in Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. Muraleedharan further stated that the Sangh Parivar had no substantial contribution to India's freedom movement, contending that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spreading falsehoods regarding their involvement.

The centenary celebrations of the RSS have sparked intense political discourse, with Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, attacking the RSS and its affiliate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for allegedly fostering a culture of cowardice. Gandhi's remarks also called attention to external affairs, referencing a statement made by Minister S Jaishankar regarding China.

Congress leader Pawan Khera also took aim at the government's decision to issue a commemorative postage stamp and coin honoring the RSS. Khera asserted that despite BJP efforts to revise historical narratives, Mahatma Gandhi's legacy remains untarnished. The commemorative coin, part of a tribute to RSS's 100-year history, features national emblems and imagery associated with the organization, which has stoked controversy among its critics.
