FBI Director Kash Patel has launched a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic, accusing the publication of tarnishing his reputation with false claims about his alleged drinking problems. The article suggested Patel's behavior risked national security.
The online version of the article, initially titled "Kash Patel's Erratic Behavior Could Cost Him His Job," cites anonymous sources and claims rescheduled meetings and unavailability due to Patel's alleged alcohol issues. Both the FBI and Patel have denied these allegations.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeks $250 million in damages. Patel argues The Atlantic published false information with actual malice, while The Atlantic defends its journalism and promises to fight the lawsuit.
