Tensions rose as the Karnataka BJP protested in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha against AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge's reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a 'terrorist'. Demanding an apology, state BJP figures, including President B Y Vijayendra and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, voiced their outrage.
Vijayendra emphasized that many nations have honored Modi with prestigious awards, marking his global leadership. He criticized Kharge's remarks as indicative of Congress's inability to accept Modi's popularity, especially given Modi's long tenure and his background.
Opposition leaders added that Kharge's statement showed Congress's waning influence. They demanded Kharge be removed as Congress president and apologize, arguing that his commentary undermines Modi's stance against terrorism. Kharge, while in Chennai, clarified his remarks, accusing Modi of 'terrorizing' the political landscape.
