In a historic moment for West Bengal, the first phase of the assembly elections reported a voter turnout of 91.78 percent, the highest the state has witnessed since Independence, according to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The elections commenced across 16 districts under heightened security measures to determine the political future of 1,478 candidates, which includes 167 women, contesting in 152 of the 294 seats available in the assembly.
As West Bengal voters displayed robust electoral behavior, attention now shifts to the second phase of the elections scheduled for April 29, with the crucial vote counting slated for May 4.
