During a victory celebration held at the party office here, H Lalremtluanga, who represents Chanmari West, Edenthar, and Hunthar localities under Ward-6, has been named as the mayor, while R. Lalawmpuii, representing Ward-16 comprising Bethlehem Veng, Bethlehem Vengthlang, and College Veng localities, will take the mantle of deputy mayor in the present 2026-2031 term, the sources said. Lalremtluanga had earlier secured victory in the 2024 AMC by-election from the same ward. Lalawmpuii was first elected to the municipal corporation in 2021 from a reserved seat, and she was reelected in the recent polls, contesting from a general seat. The ZPM-led AMC government has also appointed four Executive Corporators, comprising one woman and three men. Elections to the 19-member AMC were held on April 21. As per poll results announced on Monday, ZPM won a landslide victory, securing 17 seats, while the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress bagged one each. The BJP, which contested 11 seats, drew a blank.
