In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, Manoj Agarwal, the former Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, has been appointed as the chief secretary by the newly formed BJP government, led by Suvendu Adhikari. This appointment marks a critical strategic move by the BJP following their historic victory over the Trinamool Congress.
Agarwal, an experienced 1990-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, was instrumental in conducting the Election Commission-mandated SIR exercise before the assembly polls, leading to the removal of approximately 91 lakh voters from the rolls. His experience and oversight during the elections make him a valuable asset to the BJP government.
Former Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala has been reassigned as Principal Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, while Nandini Chakravorty was removed from the position of the state's top bureaucrat. With 207 seats, the BJP's victory dethroned the Trinamool Congress, which was reduced to 80 seats in the 294-member assembly.
