U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived in South Korea for trade talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. The discussions aim to set the stage for a summit in Beijing between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, focusing on trade and investment issues.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent landed in South Korea on Wednesday to initiate pivotal trade discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. The talks precede a crucial summit later in the week between the leaders of the United States and China in Beijing.
The agenda for Bessent's visit includes a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the presidential Blue House. The discussions, which involve key officials such as China's Vice Commerce Minister Li Chenggang, are scheduled to take place at Incheon airport's reception room.
The upcoming Beijing summit is anticipated to foster agreements on mutual trade and investment forums. However, Beijing has expressed concerns over U.S. restrictions on the export of advanced semiconductors, alongside potential American commitments involving Boeing, agriculture, and energy sectors.
