DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has reignited debate with his controversial statement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly calling for the abolition of Sanatan Dharma, which he argues perpetuates caste divisions. He clarified that his remarks were about dismantling the caste hierarchy to ensure equal rights for everyone in society.
Udhayanidhi emphasized that abolishing the caste system does not imply opposition to religious visits to temples. Instead, it seeks to create a society where all individuals, irrespective of caste, enjoy equal rights in all social spheres, including religious practices.
Citing the principles of prominent social reformers like Periyar and Ambedkar, Udhayanidhi reiterated that his stance is not against belief in God but against systemic oppression and inequality. His defense comes amidst criticism but reflects the enduring spirit of the Dravidian movement.
