Bhojshala Dispute: Digvijaya Singh Slams BJP's Divisive Agenda

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the Bhojshala issue, accusing them of perpetuating a Hindu-Muslim divide. Speaking in Indore, Singh highlighted the 1991 Places of Worship Act, urging for a comprehensive review of the situation.
Raising legal points about the 11th-century monument's status as a centrally protected site, Singh argued that there was no legal provision for worship as per Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) rules. He alleged that BJP's earlier submissions contradicted its current narrative, citing an ASI report from when Uma Bharti was Chief Minister.
The Rajya Sabha MP also referenced the Places of Worship Act enacted during the Narasimha Rao government, stressing that changing the status of religious structures post-independence is illegal. Amidst ongoing debates, the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently ruled in favor of preserving the Bhojshala complex's status as a Hindu temple.
