Amid swirling rumors of a potential political shift in Karnataka, supporters of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar celebrated across the state on Wednesday. Speculation suggests Siddaramaiah might resign soon, potentially leading Shivakumar to assume the position of Chief Minister.
Outside Shivakumar's residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, as well as in his political stronghold of Ramanagara, firecrackers were set off and sweets distributed. These celebrations underscored the wide support for Shivakumar amid discussions of a leadership change.
A supporter praised Shivakumar's leadership, recalling his successful challenge against the BJP and RSS during the 2023 Assembly elections. "In 2023, he promised victory in 130 seats and delivered," the supporter remarked, emphasizing three years of dedicated work.
In the Congress camp, sources indicate Siddaramaiah might submit his resignation to Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot on Thursday, which could lead to significant changes in the state's political landscape.
