B B Gopakumar from Chathannoor has been appointed to lead the BJP legislators in the Kerala Assembly. This announcement was made by the state's party chief, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Wednesday.
Chandrasekhar extended his congratulations through a Facebook post, highlighting Gopakumar's transition from a committed party worker to a leadership role due to his dedication and public service. Gopakumar was previously nominated for the position of Assembly speaker, although he only received support from three BJP MLAs, resulting in his loss.
The appointment comes after the BJP successfully captured three seats during the 2026 Kerala assembly elections. Chandrasekhar expressed his best wishes for Gopakumar, hoping he will remain a strong advocate for Malayalis and continue to promote the BJP's agenda for a developed Kerala.
