BJP Appoints Kewal Singh Dhillon as Punjab Chief Amid 2027 Election Preparations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Kewal Singh Dhillon as the leader of its Punjab unit, ahead of the state's 2027 assembly elections. Dhillon emerges as a prominent Sikh figure from the politically vital Malwa region, which accounts for a significant portion of the assembly seats.

Previously associated with the Congress, Dhillon, an accomplished industrialist, played a key role in bringing PepsiCo to Punjab during challenging times marked by political instability. BJP leaders expect his leadership to bolster their prospects in the region following electoral setbacks in previous elections.

Dhillon, recognized for his innovative business strategies, particularly in agriculture, aims to achieve electoral success and prioritize developmental efforts to position Punjab as a leading state.

His selection represents BJP's strategic move to appeal to Sikh voters in the aftermath of its break with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Despite current challenges with minimal representation in the state assembly, BJP anticipates growth under Dhillon's leadership.
