Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, has voiced a strong condemnation following an attack on the party's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, during his visit to Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas. Mamata accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the incident that occurred on Saturday.
According to police accounts, Abhishek Banerjee was assaulted by local residents who hurled stones, shoes, and eggs at him. The crowd shouted 'thief, thief' amidst attempts to physically attack him as he went to meet families affected by post-election violence. Mamata took to social media to express her outrage, declaring 'RULERS BECAME KILLERS' in response to the attack, and criticized BJP for allegedly planning the confrontation to disrupt Banerjee's visit to the area.
