Rainfall Brings Significant Relief from Heatwave in Punjab and Haryana

Widespread rainfall drenched several areas of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the previous day's intense heat. The change in weather was welcomed by residents as temperatures dropped considerably across the two states.

Detailed reports from the meteorological department indicated varied rainfall levels across different locations. In Punjab, notable rainfall was observed in cities such as Mohali and Ludhiana, measuring 17 mm and 32.6 mm respectively. Meanwhile, Amritsar experienced 7.2 mm of rain. Pathankot not only saw 5 mm of rain but also a hailstorm. In Haryana, cities like Karnal and Sonipat received around 12 mm each, contributing to the lowered temperatures, which were reported to be significantly below the seasonal norms.

Before the showers, maximum temperatures consistently exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. With the recent rain, Chandigarh's temperature dropped to a mild 25.3 degrees Celsius, which is 14 degrees below average. Similarly, Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius, marking an 8-degree dip from normal levels. These cooler conditions have been a relief for the residents in both states, who had been enduring soaring heat just days prior.
