The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) kicked off a campaign called 'Swachhta se Swatantrata Tak' this Monday. Designed to celebrate Independence Day, the month-long initiative aims to foster civic responsibility and environmental stewardship through a series of cleanliness and citizen-engagement activities, running from August 1 to 31.

The campaign transcends mere cleanliness efforts; it serves as a tribute to the spirit of freedom achieved through collective action. Key activities will span intensive cleanliness efforts across markets, schools, hospitals, religious places, and more. Further events include street plays, digital campaigns, and plogging drives—an activity that combines jogging with litter collection.

Each department within the NDMC has been charged with specific tasks. For instance, the Health Department will focus on cleaning JJ clusters and religious sites, plogging events, and recognizing sanitation workers. Meanwhile, the Civil Engineering Department will undertake deep cleaning of lakes, restoration of monuments, and graffiti competitions. The campaign will also focus on community participation, involving over 28,000 students in projects like the 'Each One Clean One 'initiative and clean campus drives. The NDMC also plans multiple awareness efforts through various media, aiming to make New Delhi a symbol of collective freedom.
