With rainfall reaching up to 543.4 mm in northern Beijing, the deluge primarily affected the mountainous districts of Miyun and Yanqing, resulting in the majority of fatalities there.
More than 80,000 residents were evacuated as relief operations intensified. President Xi Jinping mandated urgent search and rescue missions to cushion the devastating blow to Beijing and neighboring provinces.
