For a second consecutive day, torrential rains have pummeled southern Taiwan, compelling the evacuation of roughly 3,000 residents and the closure of businesses and schools. Authorities have announced the possibility of up to 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) of rainfall in the forthcoming days.

Flooding, induced by a depression, has swept through multiple towns and villages, submerging streets and buildings. Official reports indicate that nine people have sustained injuries, with 88 individuals rescued from flooded buildings and vehicles.

The Central Weather Administration predicts up to 0.9 meters of rainfall in the mountainous regions, heightening the risk of further floods and landslides. This comes as Taiwan is still reeling from the aftermath of Typhoon Danas, which struck the west coast with unprecedented wind speeds, damaging the power grid and structures.
