Amid the relentless monsoon downpour, residents of Madhya Pradesh's rural regions face severe transportation challenges. Pregnant women have been particularly affected, with recent incidents highlighting the dire state of roads.
In two notable cases, expectant mothers had to be transported in inventive ways due to inaccessible roads. One woman in labor was taken across a river using a bullock cart before reaching a hospital, while another was carried on a cot to an ambulance through muddy terrains.
The situation has sparked political exchanges, with opposition parties criticizing the ruling government for inadequate infrastructure investments. Tribal groups have threatened protests if no substantial progress occurs by mid-August, underscoring the urgency needed to resolve these infrastructure issues.
