In the flood-ravaged village of Dharali, rescue operations faced formidable challenges as continuous heavy rains and landslides blocked access routes. Over 150 individuals have been rescued amidst the chaos, yet numerous civilians, as well as army personnel from a nearby camp, remain unaccounted for.
On Tuesday, the tragedy unfolded with a cloudburst, burying at least half of Dharali under a deluge of mud, rubble, and water. Akash Panwar, whose body was retrieved, is one identified victim, while a 28-member tourist group from Kerala has not been heard from since the disaster struck.
Efforts to reach Dharali are ongoing, with teams of the NDRF, Army, and ITBP on high alert. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of the Centre's assistance as the rescue missions continue under adverse weather, striving to locate the missing and bring relief to the affected.
