Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the aftermath of intense monsoon rains that have displaced more than 1,500 families since June 20. The region recorded an average rainfall of 1010.9 mm, a staggering 46 percent more than usual.
The state has experienced 46 cloudbursts, 98 flash floods, and 145 significant landslides, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of 417 people. Among these casualties, 231 were due to rain-related incidents, while 181 involved road accidents. Additionally, 477 have sustained injuries, and 45 individuals remain unaccounted for.
Data from the state emergency operation center reveals that 1,502 homes have been completely destroyed, and 6,503 partially damaged. These natural disasters have caused financial losses estimated at Rs 4582 crore, with the public works and Jal Shakti departments bearing significant impacts. As residents strive to restore normalcy, 655 roads, 924 power transformers, and 243 water supply schemes remain disrupted.
