NEC's Landmark Contributions Fuel Northeastern Development Surge
The North Eastern Council reported an expenditure of nearly Rs 1,500 crore in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, significantly boosting infrastructure and development in the northeast region. This includes major investments in connectivity and core sectors, while also reducing committed liabilities and enhancing governance and accountability measures.

The North Eastern Council (NEC) has announced a significant financial outlay of nearly Rs 1,500 crore in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and development in the northeast region.
This expenditure includes Rs 792.12 crore under the Schemes of NEC and Rs 704.66 crore for the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme Roads (NESIDS-Roads), underscoring a major thrust in connectivity. During this period, 54 new projects totaling Rs 435.22 crore were sanctioned, focusing on sectors such as higher education, health infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism, alongside 162 non-project activities worth Rs 24.06 crore.
The commitment to infrastructure advancement was evident as 136 projects amounting to Rs 678.85 crore were completed, contributing to a total of 297 completed initiatives. Among governance achievements, committed liabilities were curtailed and pending utilization certificates were drastically reduced, signaling enhanced accountability and efficiency in project execution.
